That was the year the Centre Americain du Cinéma et de la Critique opened its doors at Place de L’Odeon. From an early age Bazin displayed a love of books and ideas, and a passion for nature and animals. On his own initiative, he taught himself to read; his room was strewn with library books and magazines when he was barely old enough to attend school. Most of this reading reflected his interest in nature and animals. La Rochelle is on the Atlantic coast just north of Bordeaux, an area rich in topographical and geological variety.
